'Supernature One of Year's Best'

"If you're looking for the best the world of electronica has to offer, look no further than Goldfrapp. The English duo, Alison Goldfrapp and Will Gregory, surpasses all expectations with their latest album 'Supernature', powered by smart lyrics weaved among lush melodies.

Goldfrapp is plenty big in Britain, and have already watched this album debut at No. 2 on charts there. But American audiences too should appreciate this hipster-paced approach to electronic music that comes close to the noisy chaos of the electro clash genre without giving in to the useless experimentation that many fall prey to.

On 'Ooh La La', Goldfrapp's sexy vocals ooze through the speakers and seduce the listener in a dreamy disco-esque haze. 'Switch me on, turn me up/ Oh child of Venus you're just made for love' Goldfrapp sings, while deeply fuzzed, electronic synthesizer keeps up behind her.

She's upbeat on the dance tracks, but Goldfrapp shows she can handle the down-tempo stuff perfectly as well. On 'Time Out From The World', her voice is blissful and blends beautifully with the soaring, spacey arrangement.

The instrumentals are so well constructed, Goldfrapp's vocals are like a tasty cherry on top of an already very edible sundae. With apologies to Madonna, electronic music hasn't had it this good with a front woman since Berlin's Terri Nunn.

'Supernature' is one the young year's best releases."

"Over the course of three albums, Alison Goldfrapp has combined dance-floor savvy, raw sex appeal and style to make both club kids and rock fans swoon. Sex and style step to the forefront of her British electronica duo's new album: Supernature uses thick, panty-peeling dance beats and outer-space keyboard effects to create a world of raunchy atmospheres: coked-out disco floors, opium dens, S&M clubs and animal-skin-upholstered bedroom lairs. "Number One" is the coquettish feel-good single; on "Oh La La," Ms. Goldfrapp makes like Debbie Harry, breathing, "Switch me on/Turn me up/I want to touch you/You're just made for love" over a strutting synth. The addled romp "Ride a White Horse" finds Goldfrapp vamping like a New Wave Marlene Dietrich to the groove of a four-to-the-floor techno line. And the cabaret tune "Satin Chic" gets a twist with electric player piano and a twitchy percussive stomp so evil it makes your skin crawl. Toxic and delicious, Supernature will make you do bad things -- and like it."

"Last year, Goldfrapp took the stage in New York to Cerrone's late-'70s disco hit "Supernature," which was a postcard-perfect introduction to material from the group's disco-spackled album of the same name. Sure, the songs featured on Goldfrapp's third disc are steeped very much in the supersonic present, but damned if "Ride a White Horse," "Lovely 2 C U" and chart-toppers "Ooh La La" and "Number 1" don't recall the synth workouts of pioneering disco and new wave artists like Giorgio Moroder and Gary Numan. Elsewhere, the quietly gorgeous "Let It Take You" and psychedelic "Time Out From the World" offer respite from the dancefloor. With the mesmerizing Alison Goldfrapp leading the way, a glam-rock fierceness reigns supreme throughout this stunning collection."

Billboard Album Reviews - March 2006

"Released in its native U.K. last summer, the third album by the duo of Allison Goldfrapp and Will Gregory finally makes U.S. landfall. "Supernature" offers a winning mix of Kate Bush art-school nuttiness with the dance smarts of Donna Summer. "Ooh La La" flounces out of the gate like a saloon girl fronting the first incarnation of Roxy Music while on "Ride a White Horse," Allison rhymes "disco" with "Winnebago" in a charming faux-German accent. The best treat is saved for last as "Number 1" closes with a gorgeous synth riff stolen straight from the heart of 1984."

"The UK duo Goldfrapp should be filling dance floors worldwide with this release, finally coming to the States.

Singer Alison Goldfrapp, who is a pop star everywhere but here, should also see her status soar. Her ethereal vocals are full of sexual innuendo.

This is Euro-disco with a glam rock vibe. "Ooh La La" is a sexually ambiguous tale driven by an electronic chooglin' rhythm; it kind of sounds like CCR's Delta swamp blues filtered through some sort of techno-boogie. The New Wave synth vamp "Number 1" takes a walk on the wild side and its dogmania video kills.

Viva, Goldfrapp!"

"British duo Alison Goldfrapp and Will Gregory channel the soul of '70s classic "Spirit in the Sky" into opening track "Ooh La La," but the harkening to days of yore ends there. In its place is a penchant for writing uber-orchestral, swaggering compositions layered with synthesizers acting out a variety of inspired dynamics. While not entirely dance oriented, several down-tempo songs invoke a reflective seance of flittering daydreams."

"The desire in Goldfrapp's songs isn't blissful. It's uncertain, tinged with sorrow and desperation; sometimes the crisp pop structures melt into sustained, plaintive interludes...That moodiness is what sets Goldfrapp apart from other skilled electropop acts."

Jon Pareles, New York Times, 12/7/05 (live review)

"Supernature unites the coolly precise electronic programming of Black Cherry with the melodic sumptuousness of Felt Mountain, revealing what might have been obscured by Goldfrapp's playful sexuality: the fact that she has world-class pipes, too."

Mike Wolf, Time Out New York, 12/7/05 (show preview)

"...a sound so smooth it's like silk for the ears. Their two newest releases (the EP Number 1, and the forthcoming Supernature) are the records Madonna wishes she'd made. If Goldfrapp were a character in a movie, they'd be Sharon Stone's bisexual killer-bitch, wielding a wicked grin and an ice pick."

Tricia Romano, Village Voice, 12/1/05 (show preview)

"...a thundering, beguiling glam-sex opus where the spirit of Marc Bolan glimmers on, as a woman in six-inch stilettos...[Alison Goldfrapp has a]...stunning, crystalline voice."

Sylvia Patterson, Blackbook, Winter 2005/2006 (feature)

"Supernature toggles between majestically icy torch songs and ass-slappingly hot electro/glam rock."

Dave Segal, Alternative Press, March 06

"...Not since their 2000 debut has Goldfrapp had such a clear vision of their sound and such a perfect path to a wonderfully cohesive record."

Dallas Voice, 1/19/06
